Distance: 11 km (~5–7 hrs)
Terrain: Rainforest
Highlights: After breakfast, the journey begins with a drive to Machame Gate, where registration is completed. The trek starts through lush rainforest with a steady ascent. The trail can be muddy and slippery, so trekking poles are helpful. The day ends upon arrival at Machame Camp, where climbers rest and acclimate.
Distance: 5 km (~4–6 hrs)
Terrain: Moorland
Highlights: After breakfast, the trek continues with a steep ascent through moorland, leaving the rainforest behind. The trail offers breathtaking views of Mount Meru and the Shira Plateau. This descent helps with acclimatization, making it an essential part of summit success.
Distance: 5 km (~4–5 hrs)
Terrain: Rocky, Alpine Desert
Highlights: After breakfast, the day starts with a climb up the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding scramble. The climb is not technical, but it requires careful footing and some use of hands for support. After reaching the top, the route descends into the beautiful Karanga Valley before a final short ascent to Karanga Camp. This is a shorter day, allowing trekkers to rest and acclimatize.
Distance: 4 km (~4–5 hrs)
Terrain: Alpine Desert
Highlights: After breakfast, the trek continues through a dry, rocky landscape with increasing altitude. The air becomes thinner, and climbers must take a slow and steady pace. Distance: 17 km (~12–16 hrs total)
Terrain: Arctic → Alpine Desert → Rainforest
Summit Push Highlights: The toughest and most rewarding day begins around midnight. Trekkers hike in the dark, navigating steep switchbacks toward Stella Point (5,756m). From there, it's a final push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit at sunrise provides a once-in-a-lifetime moment with breathtaking views. After taking photos and celebrating, the long descent back to Barafu Camp begins, followed by a further descent to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
Distance: 10 km (~3–4 hrs)
Terrain: Rainforest
